Gymsitters Service Returns for the 2006 Football Season

by -

CLEMSON - Clemson University's youngest Tiger fans can enjoy a fun Clemson football game day at Fike Recreation Center, thanks to the Rec Gymsitters program.

Children, ages 3 to 10, participate in arts and crafts, sports, fitness and other fun activities while mom and dad cheer on the Tigers. The service will be available for Clemson home games on Sept. 2, Sept. 23, Sept. 30, Oct. 21, Nov. 4 and Nov. 11. The cost is $50 per child, per game, and children must be registered by the Monday before game day.

If space is available after that Monday, children may register with an additional late registration fee of $10. Each child will receive a snack, a craft and a T-shirt. Parents may drop their child off 30 minutes before game time and must pick them up within 30 minutes after the game is over. A late fee will be charged after 30 minutes. Game times are to be announced, and the service will not be offered for games starting later than 5 p.m.

"It is sometimes a lot to ask of a little 'Tiger' to sit through a long, hot football game, but Gymsitters allows the entire family to come to Clemson for the day or weekend," said Susan Pope, fitness and marketing director for campus recreation. "Children can enjoy tailgating with their families and get a taste of Clemson spirit early on."

Now in its third year, Pope said the program is popular with kids and parents alike.

The children will be supervised by the campus recreation staff, which includes university staff employees and graduate and undergraduate students. All staff members are trained in CPR, First Aid and use of an automated external defibrillator.
