The Clemson Tigers picked up their 19th commitment of the 2011 recruiting class when linebacker B.J. Goodson of Lamar, S.C., called defensive coordinator Kevin Steele to tell him his intentions.

The 6-foot-1, 225-pounder was on campus for the Miami game on Saturday, and said he knew on Sunday that Clemson was the place he wanted to be.

“My family went with me on Saturday, and everyone was impressed,” Goodson said. “My mom and my dad and my sister went with me, and they loved it. I’ve already been down there, but I love it every time I get down there. It’s a beautiful place, and very exciting. They loved it and they enjoyed themselves.”

Goodson said he watched Clemson coaches and players during the game, but watching Swinney interact with an official after a call is what stood out in his mind.

“I thought the coaches were really into it,” he said. “There was a time there when the refs made a bad call, and from the looks of it Coach Swinney was all over them. I like a coach that defends his players as well as motivates them and gets behind them.”

Goodson said his message to Steele on Sunday was simple.

“I just told him I was ready,” Goodson said. “I told him I thought it was time, and let’s just get right down to business. He was very excited and very happy. Coach Swinney welcomed me into the organization and told me that I am family now.”

He mentioned his love of the campus and the fact that the Tigers were one of the first schools to show an interest as further reasons for his decision.

“Because they were the first to offer, and I really think they were the first one to look at me, period,” he said. “It was out of respect to that, and God just led me there. Clemson has a great atmosphere, and I just love everything about it.”

Goodson said that he has 91 tackles through six games, with five sacks and two interceptions. In 2009, he had 96 tackles, two sacks and a forced fumble.
