Four Tigers on Phil Steele’s Midseason All-ACC Team

Clemson, SC—Four Clemson football players have been named to Phil Steele’s midseason All-ACC first team, two on offense and two on defense.

Leading the way from a defensive standpoint is defensive end Da’Quan Bowers, who leads the nation in sacks (9) and tackles for loss (15.5). He has 37 tackles for the season, third on the team, but 33 are first hits, a team best. He also has a team best 10 quarterback pressures.

Joining Bowers on the first team defense is safety DeAndre McDaniel. The senior from Tallahassee, FL who was a first-team All-American last year is second on the team in tackles with 38. He also has four tackles for loss and two interceptions. His interception against Maryland last Saturday was the 13th of his career, fourth best in Clemson history.

Andre Ellington was named a first-team All-ACC running back by Steele. Ellington leads the Tigers in rushing with 476 yards in 82 attempts, a 5.8 average. He leads the ACC in total touchdowns with nine, including eight rushing. He had an 87-yard kickoff return for a touchdown against Maryland.

Junior offensive guard Antoine McClain was also named to the first team by Phil Steele. McClain leads the team in knockdown blocks 38 and has helped the Tigers average 31 points per game so far this year.

Clemson punter Dawson Zimmerman and offensive tackle Chris Hairston were on the second team, while tight end Dwayne Allen, defensive tackle Jarvis Jenkins and cornerback Marcus Gilchrist were on the third team.
