CLEMSON — S.C. 93 in Clemson will become a river of orange Friday, Sept. 5, as Clemson University kicks off its first home football game of the year with the annual First Friday Parade.

The parade starts at 6 p.m. and will start at the intersection with Cherry Road near the President’s Home to the intersection with Williamson Road.

To tie in with the weekend’s Military Appreciation Day activities, the theme of the parade is “Tradition and Honor, One Nation and One Clemson.” U.S. Army veteran Col. Ben Skardon, a member of Clemson’s Class of 1938, will lead the parade as grand marshal. Skardon served in World War II and was a prisoner of war held by the Japanese for more than three years after surviving the Bataan Death March through the Philippine jungle.

Sponsored by the student organization Central Spirit, the parade will have colorful floats built by sororities, as well as Tiger Band, the cheerleaders and Rally Cats, the Tiger and Tiger Cub mascots, Miss First Friday and more.

A pep rally will follow the parade on Riggs Field before the men’s soccer game against Georgia Southern University.

Both the parade and pep rally are free and open to the public.
