Final home game not a sellout

by - Senior Writer -

CLEMSON – C.J. Spiller, Thomas Austin, Jacoby Ford and a host of other Clemson Tiger seniors will be making their last game day appearance on Saturday afternoon when the Tigers take on the Virginia Cavaliers in a 3:30 p.m. contest.

The good news for Tiger fans that are still considering going is that tickets are available, according the Travis Furbee, the Assistant Athletic Director of Ticket Operations.

Furbee said that as of Wednesday afternoon, around 72,500 tickets had been sold, which leaves between seven and eight thousand that need to be sold.

“Business has definitely picked up this week, without a doubt,” Furbee said. “We think there will be walk-up sales, just because of the volume we had for Florida St. And, we have some different pricing options for this week that we think will help.”

Furbee said that students aged 18 and under receive upper deck tickets for just $10 per ticket. Saturday is also Military Appreciation Day, and any military personnel with a valid military ID get a ticket for $24, half the normal price for an ACC game. It doesn’t matter if the personnel or active or retired, as long as their ID is valid.

Clemson is also offering a group rate for groups of 15 or more, with the tickets also costing $24 per ticket

Saturday's Clemson-Virginia game will mark Military Appreciation Day

CLEMSON — Military Appreciation Day, presented by the United States Marine Corps Officers Programs, will be celebrated at the Clemson-Virginia football game Saturday.

The Clemson University athletic department will recognize and honor fallen soldiers, veterans and current military personnel serving in the armed forces during pre-game and halftime ceremonies.

“The football game between the Clemson Tigers and the Virginia Cavaliers offers an outstanding venue to recognize men and women currently serving in the Armed Forces and all military veterans,” said retired Navy Cmdr. David Lyle, chairman of the Clemson Corps. “Both schools have proud military traditions and have produced distinguished alumni who have served our country and the free world honorably and bravely.

“Military Appreciation Day will honor these alumni and all veterans. The activities will celebrate their service and honor their sacrifices.”

Beginning at 9 a.m. there will be military-related displays on Bowman Field.

A pre-game concert by the City of Greenville Pipes and Drums Corps followed by the Clemson marching band will begin at 1:30 p.m. at the outdoor theater. Veterans and current soldiers then will participate in a 2:30 p.m. parade to Memorial Stadium.

Pre-game activities will feature the presentation of colors by the United States Marine Corps Color Guard. The Clemson C-4 Pershing Rifles will be recognized for its sixth-consecutive national championship drill team performance last spring, and members of the Clemson Senior Platoon will dot the “i” when the band spells out “Tigers” on the field. Marine Corps aircraft will perform a flyover following the national anthem.

Members of the Marine Corps Officer Programs attending Clemson will be introduced at the end of the first quarter of the football game.

Military veterans and current soldiers will participate in a parade onto the field at halftime and the families of fallen soldiers from South Carolina will be introduced. A wreath, helmet and boots will be placed on the field in remembrance of fallen soldiers and there will be a 21-gun salute by the Pershing Rifles, a playing of “Taps” and an Armed Forces service medley by the Clemson band.

T-shirts will be available commemorating the event with team colors from the University of Virginia and Clemson and 78 stars that represent South Carolina soldiers killed in Iraq and Afghanistan. A portion of the proceeds will go to the Clemson University Air Force and Army ROTC programs.
