Dye to Stay |
UPDATE: According to Mickey Plyler and Clemson SID, Dye has changed his mind and will be staying on the team.
CLEMSON -- Clemson head coach Dabo Swinney confirmed Thursday morning that junior wide receiver has quit the team and asked to be released from his scholarship so that he can transfer. Swinney was doing his weekly radio interview with Dan Scott on Cruise Control on WCCP, 104.9 FM, when he confirmed Dye will be leaving the program. Xavier is a really talented player and has got a lot of ability, but he’s just been a little inconsistent,” Swinney said during the interview. “I don’t think he liked where he was at this time after two games. It’s disappointing he didn’t want to hang in there, but in his mind he can go and he’s got time to maybe get a fresh start (elsewhere).” Dye entered the 2009 campaign as the starter, and had 10 catches to that point in his Clemson career. He started the season opener against Middle Tennessee State, but only caught one pass for four yards. Following that contest, he was shifted to second string, behind Brandon Clear, and did not play at all in last Thursday’s loss at Georgia Tech. Clemson Wide Receiver Depth Chart
