Clemson, SC-Former Clemson All-American and ACC Player of the Year Jeff Davis is one of 76 players and nine coaches vying for induction in the College Football Hall of Fame. The 2004 induction class will be announced in April and inducted during ceremonies at the National Football Foundation and College Hall of Fame's 47th Awards Dinner on December 7, 2004 at the Waldorf-Astoria in New York City. To be eligible for the ballot, players must have been chosen a first-team All-American by a major selector as recognized by the NCAA. Once nominated for consideration, all player candidates are submitted to one of eight district screening committees, which holds a vote to determine who will appear on the national ballot. Davis has passed through the district process and is now on the national ballot.

Davis is one of six players from current ACC schools on the national ballot. The others are Deion Sanders and Charlie Ward of Florida State, Lucius Sanford and Don Stephenson of Georgia Tech and Lawrence Taylor of North Carolina. Other prominent players on the ballot include Troy Aikman of UCLA, Anthony Davis of Southern Cal, Eric Dickerson of SMU, Thurman Thomas of Oklahoma State, Ray Guy of Southern Mississippi and Carl Eller of Minnesota. Davis was a consensus first-team All-American in 1981 and the ACC Player of the Year when he recorded 175 tackles and served as captain of Clemson's National Championship team. He was a two-year first-team all-conference selection and still ranks third in Clemson history in tackles with 469. He was named Defensive Player of the Year by the Atlanta Touchdown Club. He is a member of the Clemson Hall of Fame and was inducted into the Clemson Ring of Honor in 1995. Davis is currently an assistant athletic director at Clemson
