QUARTERBACK

Charlie Whitehurst has been better, and showed flashes of his old form on the
game-winning drive vs. Maryland. State's Jay Davis also has improved, coming off
a four-touchdown pass performance in the loss to Miami.

ADVANTAGE - Even

RUNNING BACKS

Reggie Merriweather continues to state his case to be Clemson's No. 1 running
back. T.A. McClendon is one of the top backs in the country when healthy.

ADVANTAGE - N.C. State

WIDE RECEIVERS

No Chansi Stuckey again this week (sprained ankle), the second game he's missed
in the last three. Curtis Baham returns from suspension. Airese Currie continues
to be the go-to guy for Whitehurst.

ADVANTAGE - Clemson

OFFENSIVE LINE

Last week might have been a small step backward for Clemson's line as a unit.
State's line is banged up, and could be missing between one and three starters.

ADVANTAGE - Even

RUN DEFENSE

Despite two solid performances in a row, Clemson's run defense remains suspect.
The Wolfpack allow just 112 yards per game on the ground.

ADVANTAGE - N.C. State

PASS DEFENSE

The Tigers have three interceptions in the last two games, including the first
of the year for Justin Miller last week. State's blitz mentality puts pressure
on their corners, but so far they've held up just fine.

ADVANTAGE - N.C. State

SPECIAL TEAMS

Clemson had its first punt blocked last week, but quickly fixed the mistake and
performed beautifully the rest of the game. State has a reputation as a
kick-blocking team.

ADVANTAGE - Clemson

THE PICK

N.C. State 31, Clemson 20
