Dan Scott: Middle Tennessee - Clemson Prediction

by - Correspondent -

Middle Tennessee State (0-2) at Clemson (1-1)

When Clemson Has The Ball...

The Tigers average less than three yards per rush. The Blue Raiders give up less than three yards per rush. Looks like a prime opportunity for Clemson's wide receiver corp to finally break out.

When MTSU Has The Ball...

The Blue Raiders will spread the field and throw, throw, throw. Fortunately, the Tigers have a recent track record of success against such an offense. Remember, they beat the very talented Luke McCown and La. Tech twice within a three-game span.

Special Teams

The Tigers were strong here for the second consecutive week vs. Furman, everywhere except the field goal unit. Senior Aaron Hunt, a preseason Groza Award candidate, is 0-for-3 on the year and, according to head coach Tommy Bowden, one bad game away from losing his job. The guess here is he gets well beginning today.

With the Clemson nation mourning the loss of Jim Phillips this week, Tommy Bowden escaped another sure stint on the hot seat after the lackluster performance vs. Furman. Let's see what he came up with while flying under the radar.

While there will be a lot of emotion in the stadium on a day that Phillips is honored, it will be interesting to see how inspired the Tigers are after the run down The Hill. They'll win, but it won't be pretty.

The Pick

Clemson 27, MTSU 14
