Mainland (Daytona Beach, FL) defensive back Cortez Davis was on the sidelines before Saturday’s game against arch-rival South Carolina, and he said that while he hated to see the Tigers lose, it doesn’t change the way he feels about becoming a Tiger next season.

Davis said the loss was tough, but he wants to be a part of making something special in Clemson.

“It was tough, but it just means we have more work to do,” Davis said. “It doesn’t change the way I feel. It was a good atmosphere. I loved the crowd and everything. And we got to see TigerWalk. That was tight – I liked it.”

Davis and teammate Marlin Lane [a RB] both took in the game, and Davis said he watched the Clemson corners, the position he will play as a Tiger.

Davis is a big (6-3, 200) physical corner, and with Clemson losing Byron Maxwell and Marcus Gilchrist to graduation this season, could see playing time early.

“The coaches told me they are going to put some pressure on me, and a lot of work, so I can play as a true freshman,” he said. “I am going to go in there and work hard. I know I have some work to do, especially on my footwork.”
