Cortez Davis back with Tigers |
CLEMSON – Cortez Davis is back in the fold.
The star cornerback out of Daytona Beach (FL) Mainland, who had originally committed to Clemson last October before switching to Florida St. in late February, reaffirmed this weekend that he has switched back to Clemson. Davis is a 4-star recruit and the No. 13-rated cornerback in the nation by Rivals.com, and he is also the high school teammate of Clemson commitment Marlin Lane, a running back. David told TigerNet on Sunday that afternoon that he been feeling a lean back towards Clemson for a couple of months, and that his relationship with all of the Clemson coaches, including recruiter Chris Rumph, was part of the reason he came back. “It was just that I felt like Clemson was where my heart was – my first commitment,” Davis said. “I have been talking to the coaches, and I know that I am a good fit for the program. I love all of the coaches, and I talk to them every day. I like the whole staff there and get along with all of the coaches well. “But I have been feeling this way for a couple of months now, and this is just the way I feel. I called Coach Rumph, and he was with Coach Swinney at the time, so I got to talk to both of them. Coach Swinney asked me if this is what I really wanted to do, and I told him yes. He just welcomed me back.” During his junior season, Davis recorded 20 tackles and three interceptions and caught six passes, including three touchdowns, on offense, and he said that one of the things he loves most about Clemson is the gameday atmosphere. “When I went there, I felt like everybody was really into it,” he said. “I love the crowds and the fan base and everything like that. People around me want me to go to Alabama or Florida or USC, but I am going to stick with Clemson. That is where my heart is.”
