Clemson's Hill Leads the Nation in Tackles for Loss

Clemson, S.C.-Leroy Hill, starting linebacker for Clemson, leads the

nation in tackles for loss, according to the latest statistical

rankings released by the NCAA. His 18 tackles for loss lead all

players, as well as his 2.57 per game. He also ranks second in the

nation in solo tackles per game (9.57).

Hill, a native of Haddock, GA, played his first two seasons

at Clemson primarily as a special teams player. As a sophomore, he

led the team by far with 21 special teams tackles. As a junior, he

has started every game for the Tigers and has tallied at least two

tackles for loss in each game this season. His 84 tackles leads

Clemson and ranks third in the ACC, and he also leads the team with

five sacks.

In the win over Virginia, Hill became one of just a handful

of Clemson players to total four tackles for loss in the same game.

His 18 stops behind the line of scrimmage already rank among the top

10 individual single-season bests in school history.

Hill is looking to become the fourth defensive player from

Clemson to lead the nation in tackles for loss. William Perry became

the first to achieve the feat when he averaged 2.45 per game as a

senior in 1984. Rob Bodine, an All-American in 1991, led the nation

that year with 27 tackles for loss. In 1999, sophomore linebacker

Keith Adams led the nation and established a school record with 35

tackles for loss.
