• Clemson’s first scoring drive of the day, a 90-yard effort capped by a James Davis oneyard
run, was the Tigers’ longest drive of the year. The Tigers’ previous longest scoring drive was the 85-yard game-winning drive at Florida State on Sept. 16. • Sophomore James Davis has scored at least one touchdown in each of Clemson’s last eight games, and has scored two touchdowns in four of the Tigers’ last seven games. In the second quarter, Davis scored his third touchdown, a first in his career. Against Boston College, Florida State, Davis tallied two touchdowns in each game. He is the first Clemson player to score four touchdowns since 2003 when Chad Jasmin scored four against South Carolina, and one of only eight Tigers to score four touchdowns in the same game. For the 2006 season, Davis has nine touchdowns, and owns 18 touchdowns in his career. • The seven-yard touchdown run by C.J. Spiller marked the first rushing touchdown for the freshman from Lake Butler, FL. He scored his second touchdown with 7:14 remaining in the second half, on a one-yard rush play. Today’s game marked the first multiple touchdown game for Spiller. • Today’s game marks the first time Clemson has scored at least 21 points in the first quarter since 2003, when the Tigers scored 21 points in the first quarter en route to a 63- 17 win over in-state rival South Carolina. The last time the Tigers scored at least 21 points in the first quarter in ACC play was in 2001, when Clemson tallied 24 points against Duke. Clemson went on to win that game by a 59-31 margin. • Since 1977, Clemson has a 6-2 record when scoring at least 21 points in the first quarter. In those wins, the Tigers have outscored their opponents by a 298-72 margin. • Today’s victory marks the 100th win by a Clemson team with at least 300 yards rushing. The Tigers completed the game with 324 rushing yards. The last time Clemson accumulated at least 300 yards in a win was in 2001 when the Tigers had 328 yards against Duke. • Thomas Hunter’s 47-yard reception in the second quarter was a career-best for the senior from Marion, SC. He finished the game with 71 yards receiving, another careerbest effort. • Under Tommy Bowden (since 1999), Clemson is 11-0 when holding its opponent scoreless in the first half. • At halftime of the game, Clemson’s 1981 National Championship team made a $1 million dollar pledge to the WestZone Project. • Sophomore Chris Clemons recorded his first career interception in the third quarter. He also tallied two pass break-ups in the first half of play. • Clemson scored seven rushing touchdowns in today’s game. The last time Clemson accomplished that feat was in 1982 against Duke. • This win marks the second time that the Tigers have scored at least 50 points in back-toback home games. In 2000, Bowden’s Tigers scored 62 points against Missouri, then posted 55 points in a win over Wake Forest. This year, Clemson scored 54 points in its season opener against Florida Atlantic. • Head Coach Tommy Bowden is 5-1 all-time against North Carolina. Clemson’s previous largest margin of victory was 33 points in a 40-7 win over the Tar Heels in 1992. • The Tigers set several season-best marks as a team in the win over North Carolina. Among those were yards of total offense (504), yards per play (6.4), rushing yards (324), rush attempts (58), yards per rush (5.6) and rushing touchdowns (7). The Tigers also had 30 first downs. The Tigers’ 38:31 time of possession is also the longest under any Bowden-coached team.
