Clemson takes Pagan off the board - Updated |
CLEMSON – National Signing Day is less than a week away, and Clemson’s class of 2011 prospects has changed yet again.
Four-star defensive end Jeoffrey Pagan out of Asheville (NC) High School committed to the Tigers just 11 days ago, following his official visit to the Clemson campus. However, he shocked his school coach and Clemson coaches when he took a visit to Tuscaloosa, AL, and the University of Alabama. This week, there have been rumblings that Pagan was also talking heavily with the University of Georgia, and as of Thursday afternoon, Clemson coaches were no longer actively recruiting Pagan. His head coach at Asheville, Danny Wilkins, said he really didn’t know the reason. “I really don’t want to comment on it,” Wilkins told TigerNet. “You would just have to talk to him. But I guess there have just been a couple of things that have caused them [Clemson] concern in the midnight hour, and they didn’t want to get hung out.” Pagan had initially committed to the University of Florida, but de-committed when former head coach Urban Myer announced his retirement. New head coach Will Muschamp had tried to entice Pagan back into the fold, but lost out when he committed to Clemson. Now, it appears Georgia might be in the lead for Pagan’s services. Update: Pagan told the Asheville Citizens Times that the parting was mutual. “I wished (Clemson) the best of luck,” Pagan told the Asheville Citizens Times. “I told them I felt like my heart was elsewhere. That’s what I need to figure out. I will show everyone where my heart is on national-signing day.”
