Clemson set to host another big recruiting weekend - Updated

CLEMSON – It’s another big recruiting weekend on the Clemson campus, with nine more players coming in for their official visit.

Six of those recruits are solid commitments to Clemson, including 5-star wide receiver Sammy Watkins, 4-star wide receiver Charone Peake, 3-star offensive tackle Isaiah Battle, 3-star defensive end Kevin Dodd, wide receiver Adam Humphries and quarterback Morgan Roberts.

The three who are visiting but haven’t committed are 5-star defensive end Ray Drew, kicker Ammon Lakip and a former commitment in safety Geraldo Orta.

Drew is making his second visit to Clemson, the first which came nearly a year ago. Drew is still considering Clemson, Miami, Auburn, Alabama, Miami, Georgia and LSU.

Lakip is a recent arrival on the Clemson scene, and is down to two schools – Clemson and Georgia Tech. Lakip visited Georgia Tech on Tuesday of this week, and Clemson head coach Dabo Swinney visited Lakip at his school on Thursday. Right now, the Tigers could be a leader for the specialist.

Lakip had been scheduled to visit Auburn last week, but instead ruled Auburn out of the equation and took the trip to Georgia Tech a week early. Auburn is offering a greyshirt, while Clemson and Georgia Tech are offering full rides.

Lakip said he was anxious to see the Clemson campus again. He made a recruiting visit last spring, but that was for soccer.

"I definitely want to see the football facilities and the campus again," he told TigerNet. "I am excited to get up there and see everything again. I really liked the campus when I made my soccer visit."

Orta is down to Clemson and Tennessee, and he has said that he will evaluate both the Vols and the Tigers after his visit and make a decision.

Update 1/22/11: Orta did not make his official visit to Clemson this weekend. Clemson and Orta talked earlier this week and it appears both parties decided against the visit. So Orta will more than likely head to Tennessee and Clemson will try to land another former Clemson commitment Brandon Ellerbe with this spot.
