Clemson backs off running back Marlin Lane - Updated |
CLEMSON – The Clemson coaching staff is no longer recruiting Daytona Beach, Florida (Mainland HS) running back
Marlin Lane.
Lane (6-1, 205) is ranked as the 8th-best running back in the nation and is the 55th-rated player overall, and had seemed firmly committed to the Tigers. However, he has recently taken official visits to Auburn and Miami and a source close to the situation said that his commitment has wavered over the past two weeks. The source said that the staff has given Lane several chances to re-affirm his commitment, and after Lane wouldn’t do that, the staff decided to no longer pursue him. Lane has also faced legal troubles since a December brush with the law. Lane and his Mainland teammate, defensive back Cortez Davis, were expected to be in Clemson on Friday for their official visits. However, Davis told TigerNet that he is still a Tiger and Lane’s situation doesn’t affect his commitment. “I plan on being up there on Friday for the visit,” Davis told TigerNet a few moments ago. “I am still a Clemson Tiger, and my plans haven’t changed. I want to be at Clemson.” UPDATE 9:52PM - ESPN's Jamie Newberg tweeted the following: "Marlin Lane [Daytona Beach, Fla.] will visit Tennessee this weekend and Florida State the following weekend, per his text message to me." UPDATE 9:54PM - ESPN's Jamie Newberg tweeted the following: "Wonder if CLEM makes a move with Isaiah Crowell now that they have one less RB in their class?Know he likes them & has teammates there." UPDATE: 9:55PM - ESPN's Jamie Newberg tweeted the following: "huh? Marlin Lane just texted me that he's solid with Clemson. He doesn't want to talk until after his visit to Tenn. Gotta love recruitin!" UPDATE: 10:15AM - Post on Marlin Lane's facebook talking about Clemson: "It's ok I think I'm just gon move on I dnt want to but Ima do wats best for me nd my family at dis point but I really do love the support." Lane also says he is currently on the Tennessee campus.
