Clemson Summer Depth Chart Announced

by -

Clemson, SC—Clemson Head Coach Dabo Swinney has announced his post Spring practice depth chart. The Tigers have 51 lettermen and 13 of 22 starters returning for the 2010 season. Clemson opens the season September 4 against North Texas at Clemson Memorial Stadium.

Here are some notes on Clemson’s depth chart:

  • Clemson returns four starters in the offensive line and just one of those players is a senior, starting left tackle Chris Hairston. The lettermen returning in the offensive line have combined to start 88 games, including 23 by Hairston and 22 by Landon Walker.

  • Clemson has seven returning starters on offense and 23 lettermen. The Tigers have six starters returning on defense and 24 lettermen.

  • Clemson has 51 total lettermen returning as four are considered special teams player.

  • Five positions on the depth chart have co-starters, LG, RB, WR, on offense and NG and WLB on defense.

  • Quandon Christian is the only freshman on the depth chart as a starter. He is listed as starting strongside linebacker. He is ahead of Scotty Cooper, who was injured most of the spring.

  • Kyle Parker is listed as the starting quarterback. He started 14 games as a freshman in 2009 and tied for the national lead in wins by a freshman quarterback with nine. He is currently a starter on the Clemson baseball team and has a team best 17 home runs and a team best .392 batting average.

  • Offensive lineman Wilson Norris is not listed on the depth chart. He suffered a torn ACL during spring practice and will not play until at least the second half of the season.

  • Clemson’s starting safeties are DeAndre McDaniel and Rashard Hall. McDaniel had eight interceptions last year and Hall had six, as both ranked in the top 20 in the nation. The combined 14 interceptions are more than any returning defensive backs combination in the nation.

  • Clemson has just three seniors listed as starters on its offense for 2010 and five seniors are starters or co-starters on defense. In fact, only three seniors are on the top 22 on offense.

  • On Clemson’s two deep on offense and defense there are 10 seniors, 15 juniors, 13 sophomores and six freshmen.

  • Two Clemson seniors are on the radar for the 2011 NFL draft. Sports Illustrated’s mock draft for 2011 has McDaniel as the #24 prospect and Jarvis Jenkins #33. McDaniel is ranked as the fourth best safety in the nation by Mel Kiper.
