Clemson Holds Final Preseason Scrimmage

by -

Clemson, SC-Clemson closed its preseason camp with a 50-minute situational scrimmage on the practice fields behind the Jervey Athletic Center on Tuesday. The Tigers will take Wednesday off for the beginning of school, then return to the practice fields on Thursday afternoon in full preparation for Florida Atlantic. Clemson opens the season at home on September 2.

"It was a good practice, we got a lot out of it," said Bowden. "I would say the offense got the best of it today, but there have been many practices during camp where the defense had the upper hand. That is the way it goes."

Clemson had a normal practice for the first hour and a half, then had the situational scrimmage. "We had the offense come off the goal line from the one, had first and goal at the nine going in, practiced overtime situations, things like that," said Bowden. "The team is tired and they should be."

Quarterback Will Proctor connected on 11-14 for 100 yards and a touchdown during the scrimmage portion of the practice. Cullen Harper completed 5-11 for 52 yards and a score, while Tribble Reese was 6-7 for 78 yards and a touchdown. James Davis led the ball carriers with 7-48 rushing, including a 25-yard touchdown run against the first defense on the first play of an overtime drive.

Reggie Merriweather had 7-25 rushing and scored a nine-yard

touchdown run. Aaron Kelly had 2-17 receiving, while tight end

Thomas Hunter had 2-15. Chansi Stuckey, Demerick Chancellor and Jacoby Ford all had touchdown receptions.

The defense was led by Jock McKissic, Ricky Sapp, Brandon Cannon and Kwam Williams, who all had sacks. There were no offensive turnovers.

Richard Jackson had the kicking highlight when he made a 52-yard field goal.
