Notes: Clemson senior class trying to become just the fourth senior
class since 1941 to go 4-0 against South Carolina...Clemson red-shirt
seniors trying to become first group to go 5-0 vs. South Carolina in
history...Clemson won 7 straight from 1934-40, but players were not
red-shirted in those days...Clemson quarterback Woodrow Dantzler is
seventh in the nation in total offense, 297.8 yards per
game...Dantzler needs 233 yards rushing and 87 passing to become the
first quarterback in NCAA history to reach 1000 yards rushing and
2000 passing in the same season...needs 121 yards rushing to become
third QB in college history to reach 5000 passing and 2500
rushing...Derrick Hamilton's 100-yard kickoff return for a touchdown
at Maryland tied for the longest in school history and first since
1903 when John Maxwell went 100 yards against Cumberland...that was
John Heisman's last game as Clemson head coach...Hamilton is second
in the nation among freshmen in receptions per game...Charles Hafley
had 20 tackles against Maryland, breaking his own Clemson record for
a defensive back...this will be the first time since 1984 that South
Carolina has had a better record than Clemson entering this rivalry
game...South Carolina was 9-1 and Clemson 7-3 entering the 1984 game
at Clemson...South Carolina won that game in 1984, 22-21...South
Carolina has a 5-4 lead in games since 1960 in which it has a better
record than Clemson entering the contest...Clemson has not lost in
Columbia since 1987 and has won six in a row at Williams Brice
Stadium...this Saturday's game will be televised by Jefferson Pilot
and the Tigers are 17-3 on that network since 1995...Clemson head
coach Tommy Bowden is attempting to become the first coach in Clemson
history to take the Tigers to a bowl game in each of his first three
years as head coach.
