The Tigers enter the Duke Stadium to the roar of the Clemson faithful. Tiger Band plays Tiger Rag before the game. Quarterback Charlie Whitehurst makes a good run on the option. Whitehurst completes a 40 yard pass to Airese Currie down to the Duke 6 yard line. Gaines Adams and Anthony Waters combine on the quarterback sack. Duke quarterback Schneider makes the complete despite getting hit by two Clemson defenders. C.J. Gaddis makes some nice moves on the kick off return. Whitehurst makes a dangerous pass while taking a sack. Linebacker Leroy Hill shut down the run. Eric Coleman drops the running back for a loss. Charles Bennett picks off the pass on the goal line. Duane Coleman is tripped up saving a touchdown run. Whitehurst’s pass is tipped the picked off by Duke. Tramaine Billie gets the sack on the blitz. On 4th and 2 the Tigers hand the ball off to Chansi Stuckey who attempts a throw to Ben Hall. Nick Watkins smacks the Duke running back down for no gain. Charles Bennett throws the Duke running back down for a three yard loss Charles Bennett and Maurice Fountain combine on the sack that injures the quarterback. Duane Coleman makes a rice num to get the call close to goalline. Reggie Merriweather scores the Tigers’ only touchdown of the day on a run up the middle. Gaines Adams records yet another sack. Duke scores its only touchdown of the day late in the 4th quarter. Charlie Whitehurst’s pass is picked off and it sets up the field goal that wins the game for Duke.
