Clemson Athletic Events Postponed Through Friday |
Clemson, SC-In light of the tragic terrorist attacks in New York and
Washington, DC on Tuesday, all Clemson athletic events have been postponed through Friday. The decision will effect one volleyball match, one women's soccer match and one men's soccer match. A decision on the status of Saturday's Clemson vs. Duke football game scheduled at Death Valley will be made Wednesday. There will be a conference call of ACC Athletic Directors to discuss the status of the weekend games Wednesday. The ACC announced Tuesday that Thursday evening games between Penn State at Virginia and Ohio University at NC State, had been postponed. The events cancelled so far are the Clemson vs. South Carolina volleyball match at Clemson on Wednesday, the Clemson at North Carolina women's soccer match on Wednesday and the Duke at Clemson men's soccer match scheduled for Friday. Atlantic Coast Conference to postpone all athletic events through Thursday GREENSBORO , N.C. - The Atlantic Coast Conference announced today that all intercollegiate athletic events though Thursday, September 13, involving ACC member institutions, will be postponed in light of the recent national tragedy. The events affected include both the Ohio University at NC State and Penn State at Virginia football games scheduled for this Thursday night. The Ohio-NC State game has been rescheduled for Saturday, November 24, at 1:00 p.m. The date for the Penn State-Virginia game has yet to be determined. "We are deeply saddened by the tragic events of this morning," said ACC Commissioner John Swofford. "All nine ACC member institutions are in agreement that the next couple of days should be a time for reflection and prayer for the families of those who are involved in this tragedy. Our concerns are for the safety of our participants and fans, both in travel and in assembly, and respect for the aftermath of these terrible events. We will continue to seek advice and counsel from our schools and state, local and national authorities in regards to other future scheduled events." Commissioner Swofford has scheduled a conference call with league officials on Wednesday (September 12) to continue discussions concerning future ACC athletic events. The ACC will have an announcement Wednesday evening concerning this weekend's athletic events.
