Brandon Maye puts in request to leave football team |
CLEMSON – Clemson linebacker Brandon Maye has turned in his transfer request to the Compliance Office in order to transfer to another university before the start of next football season, according to multiple sources.
The story was first reported by Travis Sawchik of the Charleston Post and Courier this morning. TigerNet spoke with one source close to the situation who said that Maye, who was switched from his usual middle linebacker spot to outside linebacker last spring, will be looking to transfer after becoming discontented with the position move and his playing time. The source said that the school will not release anything on Maye until possibly Wednesday, after head coach Dabo Swinney [who is putting the finishing touches on the recruiting class] has had a chance to sit down with Maye and discuss the situation. Maye and Swinney have already met, but Swinney wants another chance to talk with Maye. Maye is a redshirt junior who is on pace to graduate this spring, and the source said that he would most likely stay until he graduates, and then much like quarterback Willy Korn attempted at Marshall last season, transfer to a FBS school and not have to sit out a year. If he were to choose a school that had a post-grad program of his choice that is not offered at Clemson he would not have to wait the mandated year.
