CLEMSON, SC -- Clemson Coach Tommy Bowden on West Virginia Announcement that Rich
Rodriguez will be named Head Coach on Monday:

"I am happy for Rich and his family. As a graduate of West
Virginia, that is a special place for him. I wish him the best.

"I also want to thank him for what he did for the Clemson program.
He had a big impact on our success over the last two years on offense. He
had a lot to do with our three-game improvement each of the last two years
and we broke a lot of records in some major areas on offense.

"As far as a replacement is concerned, there are several qualified
candidates on our present staff. Or, I could go outside the staff.
Whatever the decision, it will be in the best interest of our program."

Rodriguez was given a five-year contract at $402,600 annually, including a
$150,000 base salary, $63,000 from the school's Athletic Endowment Fund
and $189,600 from radio, television, internet and endorsements.

He can earn an additional $100,000 in incentives.

Rodriguez was a defensive back at WVU in 1982-84. He then served
one year as a graduate assistant coach.
