Bowden Sunday Teleconference

by - Correspondent -

Quick notes and quotes from Tommy Bowden's regular Sunday teleconference:

- I thought the line played a lot more intense. We still gave up three sacks (other two were not line's fault). We need to be more productive in the running game. But the effort was much better.

- We came in throwing at the end of the game, last week and this week. And throwing it downfield. Something we're working on. We're trying to see how productive we can be as an offense, including throwing the ball effectively when more talented teams put people in the box.

- Harper's played three games and has broken three records. Can't do much more. He's done everything we've asked him to do. He's accurate, and his game management has been really, really good.

- N.C. State: We operate at the line a whole bunch. We're going to go into the game with a comprehensive plan to run and pass. If the numbers present themselves to run it, we will. If not, we'll throw it. We'll have a better idea after looking at tape.

- Defense did good. Still had some missed assignments, which happens against the option. Didn't miss as many tackles.

- Pleased that we got some turnovers. Couple were deflections with guys breaking to the ball, which shows good effort. Furman doesn't turn it over very much, so real pleased to get five of them.

- Spiller: One the reasons Cullen has been so productive is that defenses trying to take away the run. He and James don't have the stats right now, but if we keep throwing like we have there will be some running opportunities. Not disappointed at all.

- Grisham: Sometimes you never know which guy it's going to be. We've got several guys capable. Just so happens that some of the things they did defensively left Grisham open.

- Chris Wade: He's a guy who's begged for four years to get on special teams. He's made a bunch of plays. Will know more about his status later today.
