Bowden Replaces Robinson with Crosby

CLEMSON - One day after saying freshman Roscoe Crosby was "locked in" to his slot receiver position, Clemson head coach Tommy Bowden apparently found a key.

Following Monday's practice, Bowden announced that Crosby and junior Jackie Robinson would be switching positions, effective immediately. Robinson was moved to an outside spot - Rod Gardner's position the past two seasons - when Kevin Youngblood broke his leg two weeks ago.

But after Saturday's 21-13 victory over Central Florida, Bowden was seeking more production from his receivers.

So it's Robinson to the slot, and now Crosby gets hit shot in Gardner's old spot.

"Both are still going to start," Bowden said. "We're just switching them up to try and get more production out of that backside spot."

Bowden also said he would play more people Saturday against Wofford, "Not because it's Wofford, but because it's a necessity."

Offensive linemen Greg Walker and Brian Outlaw were among those he named, as well as the entire second team defensive line.

In other news, cornerback Brian Mance was named the Atlantic Coast Conference Defensive Back of the Week Monday, following his 10-tackle performance Saturday against Central Florida.

He also contributed 98 yards on three kickoff returns, and 21 yards on punt returns.
