CLEMSON -- At his weekly press conference, Clemson head coach Tommy Bowden usually doesn’t make an opening statement, but with the matchup with #13 Miami(FL) just days away, Bowden wanted to give a message to the fans.

“I think it is going to be important that our crowd be a factor in this game,” said Bowden. “I want to encourage the crowd to make it extremely difficult (for Miami).”

This week FSU head coach Bobby Bowden told his son, Tommy, that he thought the Clemson crowd would be a factor in the game against the Hurricanes. Miami (0-1) is making its first ever trip to Clemson (2-0) and will attempt to become just the second first-time visitor in the last 28 years to win at Death Valley.

The Hurricanes are trying to simulate the crowd noise by bring several large speakers into practice and playing the Clemson fight song and crowd noise.

“It’s awful difficult to operate at the line of scrimmage here at particular times,” said Bowden. “The Texas A&M game was extremely loud. They had trouble communicating. We even had trouble communicating.”

If Clemson can defeat Miami it would give Clemson its first 3-0 start since the 2000 season and just its second 3-0 start since 1992. The game is a sellout.

Personnel change

Bowden announced that 3rd team running back Duane Coleman will be moved to defense as a corner.

“Duane is too good of a player to sit on the bench," said Bowden. "He’s a tough guy. He’s a hard nosed guy. He practices extremely hard.“
