Big recruiting weekend on tap for Tigers

The Clemson coaching staff will play host to a number of big-name juniors this weekend with its second Junior Day.

The first Junior Day – held back in January – was designed to reach a smaller, targeted group of juniors heading into National Signing Day. This weekend, however, will feature a larger number of recruits as the coaches dial in on their top targets for the next two classes.

Headlining the committed prospects who will be on campus are the Tigers’ newest members of the 2017 class - Knoxville (TN) Catholic 4-star wide receiver Amari Rodgers and Roswell (GA) 4-star cornerback LeAnthony Williams.

Rodgers and Williams both visited Clemson for the earlier Junior Day, and Rodgers committed to the Tigers on Valentine’s Day. Eight days later, Williams gave his verbal to the Clemson coaches.

The coaches will also host a bevy of uncommitted prospects, and no name is bigger than 4-star running back Cordarrian Richardson of Memphis (TN) Trezevant. Richardson is ranked No. 90 overall by Rivals and is listed as the No. 193 player in the ESPN 300. Richardson has offers from all of the top programs, including Alabama, Florida St., Georgia, Clemson, LSU and Oklahoma. It will be the first visit to Clemson’s campus for Richardson, who has said that Clemson is in contention along with a quartet of SEC schools - Alabama, Auburn, Ole Miss and Tennessee.

Another intriguing prospect that will be in this weekend is 3-star defensive end Tre Lawson out of North Augusta (SC). Lawson is a prospect that just began popping up on the radars of some of the larger schools. He recently picked up offers from Florida State and South Carolina, and is a candidate to receive an offer from Clemson this weekend.

Also hoping to pick up an offer this weekend are Bluffton (SC) athlete Cam Bent, Anderson (SC) Westside safety Lummie Young and Laurens (SC) offensive lineman Summie Carlay.

In addition to the juniors, the Tigers will host a few 2018 prospects, a group led by Cartersville (GA) quarterback Trevor Lawrence and Laurinburg (NC) Scotland County running back Zamir White.
