Becky Scott: Clemson-Duke Prediction

by - Correspondent -

After another close defeat, I had to make a painful decision.

Though it performed well in the first year in my new system, the ol' Magic Helmet just hasn't produced the wins expected at this level. So, this week MH goes to the bench and my daughter, Rebekah - who is celebrating her birthday Saturday, four days early, at Death Valley - will make the pick this week.

Rebekah, by the way, will be 10 years old next Wednesday (Nov. 9).

So here we go. I will ask the questions. The responses will be totally hers.

Dad: Becky, you have been to one Clemson football game before. It, too, was against Duke. What did you like best about the game?

Becky: Sitting on the hill with the college kids and doing the cheers with them.

Dad: Aren't you a bit young to be hanging out with college kids?

Becky: Yes, but it's fun anyway.

Dad: You didn't drink anything, did you?

Becky: I drank Coke.

Dad: Good girl. So, what do you know about Clemson football?

Becky: Clemson can win against Duke anytime.

Dad: Um, Becky, Clemson lost at Duke last year.

Becky: Well, now's their chance to win.

Dad: So, you think Clemson will win Saturday?

Becky: Duh!

Dad: Okay then. Why?

Becky: 'Cuz Clemson is a good team and they got good spirit.

Dad: So there's no way possible Duke will win on Saturday?

Becky: Duke has no chance if Clemson keeps its spirit, and so do the fans.

Dad: So tell us then, what will be the final score?

Becky: 35-7 Clemson.

Dad: Are you sure?

Becky: Yes.

Dad: You realize that although this should be an easy game to pick, if you get it right people are still going to make fun of me.

Becky: I enjoy that.

Dad: Very funny. Go to your room. By the way, I love you. Happy Birthday.
