CLEMSON RECRUITING

Baseball Recruiting Class Ranked #1

by -

Clemson, SC -- Clemson's 1999 baseball recruiting class is rated #1 in the country according to Baseball America. Southern California, Stanford, Florida, and Texas A&M round out the top five. The top-25 ranking is the Tigers' seventh in as many years under Head Coach Jack Leggett and Recruiting Coordinator Tim Corbin.

"The Tigers' 18-man recruiting class is significant because they lost just one player to pro-ball," states editor Allan Simpson. "Two-way standouts Jeff Baker, the Indians fourth-rounder, who was the MVP of the World Junior Championships, and Jarrod Schmidt, a 23rd-round pick of the Marlins and MVP of the Connie Mack World Series head up Clemson's class."

Clemson also added three transfers to bolster its class. Righthander Scott Berney (Connecticut), lefthander Anthony Urrico (Long Island), and righthander Rob Sine (Richmond) have joined the team and will be eligible to play in 2000.
