Alabama receiver EJ Williams updates his recruitment after summer visits

As the recruiting dead period commences, wide receiver prospect E.J. Williams is left to weigh his options ahead of his August 24 announcement.

The 4-star Phenix City (AL) Central prospect visited Clemson for head coach Dabo Swinney’s high school camp and took an official visit to Auburn last week ahead of the dead period, and will now decide between Clemson, Auburn, Alabama, and LSU.

While at Clemson, Williams spent time on the field with 2020 quarterback commit D.J. Uiagalelei.

“It was a great visit as always,” Williams told TigerNet Wednesday. “It was eye-opening to see a young quarterback like him throwing at such a high caliber.

Swinney and wide receivers coach Jeff Scott had a message for Williams before he departed.

“Basically they told me that they have a plan for me and if I trust them it will all fall into place,” Williams said.

Williams’ next stop was Auburn for a visit that he said went just as expected.

“It went great,” he said. "Every official is supposed to be great, though.”

Recruits can take visits for one week in July (25-31), but Williams thinks he will have his mind made up before then.

“Honestly I will really have my mind made up in a few weeks,” he said. “I am planning to go to the All In Cookout and take a visit to Alabama.”

With such a big decision looming, Williams said he’s lucky to have his mother, Vontrelle Williams, to lean on for support.

“It’s a blessing because every recruit doesn’t have their mother with them while they are on the crazy journey of the recruiting process. She’s my biggest fan,” he said of his mother.

So what will his school of choice look like?

“I will feel very comfortable,” he said. "I’ll have a good relationship with the coaches and have an opportunity to play as a freshman.”

Williams caught in 40 passes for 668 yards and eight scores as a junior.
