OFFENSIVE BACK - Chris Weinke, QB, Florida State & Antwoine Womack, TB, Virginia
Florida State's Chris Weinke, a 6-5, 229-pound senior from St. Paul, Minn., threw for a career-high 496 yards and three touchdowns in the Seminoles' 27-24 loss at Miami. The 496 yards were the sixth-highest single-game passing total in ACC history and the most ever by an ACC quarterback versus a ranked team. Virginia's Antwoine Womack, a 5-11, 204-pounder from Hampton, Va., continued his strong play by rushing for a game-high 133 yards in the Cavaliers' 31-23 win over Maryland on Saturday. It was the second 100-yard game in a row for the junior tailback and his third of the year. Womack is currently second in the ACC in rushing, averaging 107.7 yards per game. OFFENSIVE LINEMAN - Will Merritt, OG, Clemson Merritt, a 6-3, 260-pound junior turned in an outstanding effort in the Tigers' 34-27 win over NC State. Merritt had 20 knockdown blocks, an all-time record for a Clemson offensive lineman, dating back to 1983. He played 100 snaps in the contest (Clemson ran 95 plays and there were five plays with penalties) and graded out at 75 percent for the game. DEFENSIVE LINEMAN - Levar Fisher, LB, NC State Fisher, a 6-1, 223-pound linebacker from Beaufort, N.C., recorded 19 tackles, including 14 unassisted hits and a pair of quarterback sacks in the Wolfpack's loss to Clemson Saturday. The junior also caused a fumble and broke up a pass. Fisher's 19 total tackles rank seventh for a single game in the NC State record books. DEFENSIVE BACK - Shawn Forte, DB, Maryland Forte, 6-0, 201-pound senior, had one of the best games of his career in Maryland's loss to Virginia Saturday. Forte's first big play of the day came with 1:30 left in the first half as he intercepted a Dan Ellis pass and returned it 69 yards for the Terps' first touchdown. Forte also recovered a fumble in the third quarter that gave Maryland the ball at the UVa 40-yard line. The Poughkeepsie, N.Y., product finished the Virginia game with 11 tackles. SPECIALIST - Matt Brennie, P, Wake Forest Brennie, a 6-2, 188-pound sophomore from Highland, N.Y., recorded his fourth straight game of averaging at least 40 yards per punt. Brennie averaged 40.8 yards per punt and booted one inside the 20 in a 17-10 loss to Vanderbilt. He recorded a long punt of 54 yards. ROOKIE - Philip Rivers, QB, NC State In being named ACC Rookie of the Week for the fifth time this season, Rivers, a true freshman quarterback from Athens, Ala., had another outstanding afternoon in the Wolfpack's defeat at Clemson Saturday. Rivers completed 21 of 48 passes for 370 yards and three touchdowns of 81 yards, 52 yards and 63 yards. His 370 yards passing versus the Tigers was the 10th best single-game passing performance in NC State history.
