CLEMSON, SC -- Clemson's young basketball team was led by the few veterans on the team Friday night in a season-opening 77-47 win over East Tennessee State in front of 2,500 at Littlejohn Coliseum.

Sophomore guard Will Solomon led the Tigers with 21 points while junior Adam Allenspach had 16 and senior Adruis Jurkunas had 13.

The Tigers held ETSU to 34.5 percent shooting while winning their 15th season opener in a row.

"We defended pretty well for a large part of the game," said Clemson coach Larry Shyatt after his second season opener as Clemson's head coach. "We used our size well for a large part of the game."

The Tigers had 16 turnovers, but little bothered Shyatt about Clemson's performance. "I think you'll find that 10 or 11 of those came in perhaps a five to six minute period of the game."

Jurkunas, Allenspach and Solomon combined for 37 of Clemson's 46 first half points. The Tigers trailed 5-1 early, but led 20-9 after a 3-pointer by Solomon with 11:04 left in the first half.

The Tigers never looked back, even though ETSU tried to climb back in the game early in the second half.
The Tigers led 46-24 at the half. ETSU cut the lead to 52-36 after a basket by Leo Murray with 11:15 left in the game. That was as close at the Buccaneers could get. Clemson went on an 8-0 run late in the game and led 72-42 with 3:21 left after two free throws by Thomas Nagys, who finished with 7 points in his first game at Clemson. Clemson finished with 14 points off the bench from its rookies. Aturas Javtokas, a junior college transfer from Lithuania, finished with 5 and freshman Walker Holt scored 2.

"The thing I think I feel best about is their trying," said Shyatt. "We have great trying ability."
