Clemson (2-0) roared out to a 19-point halftime lead and used a small run early in the second half in holding off the Bulldogs (1-2).

“We had good efficiency offensively and had a god mix to the game,” Clemson head coach Brad BrownellBrad Brownell

Head Coach

View Full Profile said. “I would like to see us shoot better from the free throw line [Tigers were 11-for-22], but I think we just have a much better understanding of what we are trying to do.”

The Tigers never trailed in the contest, jumping out to an 11-3 lead, and then went on a 17-6 run midway through the first half to take a 28-14 lead. The Tigers then used an 11-3 run to end the half for the 39-21 lead.

The Tigers came out flat to start the second half and saw the Bulldogs score the first five points of the half. At that point, Brownell called a timeout.

“We came out in the second half and played like a team with an 18-point lead,” Brownell said. “We just had a couple of loose possessions, and I didn’t like our body language. It looked like the game was going to turn into a pickup game, and that isn’t how we play. We know better than that, so I called timeout to remind the guys. The older guys responded and we went on a little run to stretch it out and that was great to see.”

The Bulldogs didn't score again until 9:50 left in the game, but Clemson lead 55-28 at that point and never looked back.

Clemson shot well for most of the contest and finished with a 54 percent shooting percentage while holding the Bulldogs to just 30 percent shooting for the game.

Mike Groselle led The Citadel with 16 points while Cosmo Morabbi and Bo Holston had eight each.

Clemson had a balanced effort offensively. All 12 players on the roster played in the game, and 11 of them found the scoring column. Catalin BaciuCatalin Baciu
