Tigers Get Redemption and Big Win on Road

by - Senior Writer -

The Clemson Tigers finally found their offense, and along the way found a little redemption while earning their 20th win of the season.

Trevor Booker’s 21 points and 13 rebounds led five Tigers in double figures, including Terrence Ogelsby’s career-high six three-pointers as he scored 17 of his 21 points in a torrid second as 11th-ranked Clemson downed the Boston College Eagles 87-77 at Boston College Tuesday night.

The win came just three days after the Tigers blew a 19-point lead in a home loss to Florida St., but this time Clemson played better down the stretch, with Oglesby capping the evening with a dunk to close out the scoring on Clemson’s 20th win overall (20-3) and sixth in conference play (6-3).

The Tigers and Eagles played a back-and-forth first half, but Boston College, led by Rakim Sanders, pulled away late in the half and led 39-35 at intermission, with the Clemson press seemingly ineffective and the Eagles getting a lot of easy points in the paint.

That all changed in the second half, however, as Clemson turned up the defensive intensity while Booker, Raymond Sykes and K.C. Rivers seemed to own every offensive rebound.

The Tigers trailed 44-37 early in the second half, then scored seven consecutive points, getting back-to-back steals off the full-court press to take the lead.

Boston College led 57-55 when Booker made a basket and then Oglesby hit a 3-pointer and drew a foul, sinking the free throw to give the Tigers a four-point lead they would never relinquish.

After a Tyrese Rice layup, Oglesby hit another trey and Booker rebounded a Rice miss and got an Oglesby feed and dunk at the other end to make it a seven-point lead.

Boston College cut it to four points, 75-71, with under six minutes left. But Booker had another dunk with one second remaining on the shot clock, then Rice threw it away under pressure and Booker hit a turnaround in the lane to make it an eight-point game.

Oglesby went 6-for-10 from three-point range, while captain K.C. Rivers added 17 points and Sykes had 12 with nine rebounds as Clemson reached 20 wins for the third consecutive season—a first in school history.

Sanders scored 23 with eight rebounds for BC (18-8, 6-5), but didn’t score in the 13:27, while Rice added 17.

The Tigers play at Virginia (7-13, 1-8) next Sunday.
