Solomon Finishes Second Nationally Among Sophomores In Scoring, Three Point

CLEMSON, S.C. -- Clemson guard Will Solomon finished second in the nation in scoring among sophomores according to national statistics released by the NCAA on Friday. Solomon, a native of East Hartford, CT, ranked 16th in the country overall with a 20.9 average.


Solomon's average was second nationally among sophomores behind Notre Dame All-American Troy Murphy, who had a 22.7 average this past season. Clemson's first first-team All-ACC selection since the 1989-90 season also ranked 17th in the nation in three-point goals per game with a 3.1 figure. He was second among sophomores nationally in this category also, trailing only Adam Kellars of Campbell, who had an average of 3.4 per game.


Solomon's 20.9 scoring average led the ACC and was the highest average by a Clemson player since Horace Grant averaged 21.0 per game in 1986-87. His number-six scoring ranking was the highest by a Clemson player since 1968-69 when Butch Zatezalo ranked 14th in the nation in the final stats.


Solomon led the ACC in scoring and three-point goals/game. It marked the second straight year a Clemson player led the league in scoring. Terrell McIntyre led the conference in 1998-99. Overall, Solomon ranked in the top 10 in the conference in four different areas. Solomon was also third in the ACC in three-point goals percentage (.375), and was 10th in assists per game with 3.2.


Two other Clemson individuals were ranked in the top 10 in the ACC in various categories. Adam Allenspach, Clemson's starting center, who will be the only senior on next year's team, finished eighth in rebounding (7.1) and 10th in free throw percentage (.740). Andrius Jurkunas, the only senior on the 1999-00 team, ranked ninth in the ACC in three-point goal percentage (.342) and three-point goals per game (1.6).
