Iva, SC--Students at Crescent High School in Iva, SC, will learn about the dangers of underage alcohol use when Sharrod Ford and Assistant Coach Kevin Nickelberry from Clemson University's Men's Basketball team visit their school to participate in an Alcohol Awareness Event. Mr. Ford and Mr. Nickelberry will visit several classrooms to speak about the harmful effects of underage alcohol use on Thursday morning, August 26 from 8:10 to 11:25 AM.

"Most high school students in this community are not using alcohol, but it is a decision many face," stated by Lori Saha of Anderson-Oconee Behavioral Health Services. "We want to help these kids understand that underage drinking is illegal can be dangerous."

Through the Governors Cooperative Agreement for Prevention Grant (G-CAP), the Anderson 3 Community Coalition planned this awareness event for Crescent High School. Members of the Coalition feel that, "By providing alcohol-free alternatives, such as this event, we are sending out the positive message that it's o.k. to say 'no' to your friends and that your focus should be on achieving your goals."

Anderson-Oconee Behavioral Health Services, in collaboration with Clemson University's Men's Basketball program, is leading the event. Anderson-Oconee BHS provides high quality comprehensive, accessible prevention, intervention, treatment and referral services to the citizens of Anderson and Oconee Counties.
