Purnell Statement on Kevin Nickelberry being hired at Hampton on Friday.

"Kevin did a terrific job at Clemson in all aspects of the

program and he will do an outstanding job at Hampton University. He

is a great fit for Hampton and Hampton is a great fit for Kevin and

his family.

"It was Kevin's belief when he took the job at Clemson that

working in the ACC and helping this program progress would give him

the opportunity to become a head coach and that is what has happened.

"We are sorry to see Kevin leave, but at the same time it

gives me personal pride to see him reach his goal as a Division I

head coach.

"I will start the process of hiring a replacement

immediately. I obviously will have access to a lot of qualified

candidates who are here at the Final Four in Indianapolis this

weekend."

Note: This is the sixth assistant coach Oliver Purnell has had who

has become a college head coach.
