Nagys, Bains Selected for Junior National Teams

CLEMSON, SC -- Two rising sophomores on Clemson's 2000-01 men's basketball team have been named to their respective country's junior national teams. Pasha Bains and Tomas Nagys were both key reserves on Clemson's team as freshmen and will gain significant experience from international competition this summer.

Nagys will be a member of the Lithuanian Junior National team that will compete in the European Championships July 26- August 8 in Macedonia. He will also participate in international tournaments this summer in Dallas, TX and the Czech Republic. Bains will participate with the Canadian Junior National team in the CoPaba World Championships in Brazil June 27 to July 17.

Bains was fifth on the Clemson team in scoring lat year with a 5.7 average. He was the team's top free throw shooter with a 78 percent mark. He started four of the 22 games he played in, including a season high 19 points against George Washington in December. Nagys averaged 2.6 points and 2.4 rebounds last year. He led the team in charges taken with 12 and in free throw attempts per minute (58 in just 193 minutes of play). He had his top game at Duke when he had eight points and eight rebounds in 17 minutes of play.
