Lady Tigers Picked 12th in ACC Basketball Poll

GREENSBORO, N.C. - Duke, the recipient of 30 of the 40 first-place votes, was selected as the top preseason pick for the 2005-06 Atlantic Coast Conference Women's Basketball season, as determined by a vote of the media and head coaches.

The North Carolina Tar Heels, who received 10 first-place votes, followed the Blue Devils in the balloting, while the Maryland Terrapins finished third. NC State followed by ACC newcomer Boston College were selected to finish in fourth and fifth place, respectively.

Florida State was sixth, followed in the seventh and eighth slots by the Virginia Tech Hokies and Virginia Cavaliers. Wake Forest finished in ninth place while Georgia Tech, Miami and Clemson rounded out the poll.

In balloting for the 2005-06 preseason All-Conference team, senior Monique Currie of Duke and Tamara James of Miami were named to the team along with juniors Ivory Latta of North Carolina and Shay Doron of Maryland. The six member preseason team was rounded out by sophomores Crystal Langhorne of Maryland and Erlana Larkins of North Carolina.

Currie was selected as the league's preseason Player of the Year for the second straight year, while Blue Devil freshman Abby Waner was tabbed preseason ACC Rookie of the Year.

Clemson Women's Basketball To Hold Orange and White Scrimmage

Lady Tigers will begin play at 4:00 PM on Thursday, Oct. 27

CLEMSON, SC - Head Coach Cristy McKinney's Lady Tigers basketball team will hold an intersquad scrimmage on Thursday, Oct. 27 at 4:00 PM at Littlejohn Coliseum. The Orange and White game will be open to the public and admission is free.

Clemson's first exhibition game will be held on Tuesday, Nov. 1 against Anderson College at 7:00 PM. The team will begin the 2005-06 season at the WBCA/BTI Classic in Tempe, AZ against Missouri on Nov. 11 before hosting Tennessee Tech on Monday, Nov. 18 in the home opener.
