Jemere Hendrix Withdraws from Clemson |
Clemson, SC - Clemson forward Jemere Hendrix has decided to withdraw
from school and return home for family reasons. Clemson Head Coach Larry Shyatt made the announcement Monday. Hendrix suffered a stress fracture of his right foot earlier in the season and had not played since Jan. 12. It was recently determined that he would miss the rest of the season due to the injury. This past weekend he decided to withdraw from school and return home. He plans on attending a different school next year. "I have decided to leave Clemson for family reasons," said Hendrix. "I enjoyed my time at Clemson. I appreciate the opportunity Coach Shyatt gave me, but this decision is what is best for me and my family at this time." "Jemere's injury caused some frustration the last few weeks," said Shyatt. "We will help him any way we can to have a successful future." Hendrix played 43 minutes in eight games this season. He was 5-7 from the field and 9-14 from the foul line for 19 points in his limited action. He also pulled in 12 rebounds, including seven off the offensive boards. He had a season high nine points in 10 minutes of play against Coastal Carolina on Nov. 30. He scored five points and had three rebounds in four minutes of action at Wake Forest on Jan. 12 in his most recent action. More on Hendrix from when he signed with Clemson Hendrix is the fifth and final member of Clemson's 2001-02 freshman class, a group ranked among the best in the nation by many analysts. Hendrix played his high school basketball at East Side High School and averaged 20 points and 10 rebounds per contest this past season. He also blocked three shots per game and helped his team to the second round of the state championship tournament. He averaged 17 points and 10 rebounds a game as a junior. He had a career high of 28 rebounds in a game as a junior. "Bobby Hussey and Darren Tillis both did an outstanding job in recruiting Jamere," said Clemson Head Coach Larry Shyatt. "They were impressed with his athleticism and his versatility. When I saw him late in the season I was also impressed with his outside shot. He is very well liked in his community. I hope he will continue to grow. He is only 17 and already has a size-16 shoe. There is additional growth potential." Shyatt was pleased with his recruiting class overall. "We certainly have been trying to increase our athletic and overall offensive ability in the last two classes and I think we have taken steps in the right direction. The five prospects we have coming in for next year will raise our level of play in a very difficult league. "We were faced with a size issue and we have addressed that with this class. All five of these players can help us early in their careers."
