EUGENE, OR -- Scott Duncan, assistant coach with the Clemson men's basketball program the last two years under Larry Shyatt, was named assistant basketball coach at the University of Oregon on Friday.

Duncan came to Clemson in 1998 after serving as assistant coach under Shyatt at Wyoming in 1997-98. He helped the Tigers to a 20-15 record and the NIT finals in 1998-99. Significantly involved in coaching the Clemson guards, Duncan has worked closesly with each of the last two ACC scoring champions, Terrell McIntyre in 1998-99 and Will Solomon in 1999-00.

Duncan just completed his 22nd year as an assistant coach in the college ranks, his 18th as a full-time Division I assistant. Duncan has coached in the Northwest before, serving as an assistant at Washington State in 1995-96 and 1996-97.

Duncan will serve under Oregon Head Coach Ernie Kent, a longtime friend in the business. The Ducks were 22-8 this past season, the school's best record since 1945. Oregon, third in the Pac10 this year, advanced to the NCAA Tournament where it lost to Seton Hall in the first round in overtime.

"I am thrilled for a lifelong friend," said Shyatt. "I certainly have mixed emotions, because Scott has done so much for our program, but I respect his abilities and his wishes to take advantage of this opportunity.

"Pam (Shyatt's wife) and I appreciate the contributions he made to the programs at Wyoming and at Clemson. He has had a positive effect on a number of young men on and off the court."
