CLEMSON RECRUITING

Defense is Brownell's 5th commitment's calling card

Commitment number five turned out to be Brad Brownell’s kind of player.

The Clemson head coach went to dinner with Laney (Augusta, Ga.) High School shooting guard Rod Hall Friday night while the 6-2 senior was on campus for his official visit. Brownell asked Hall if he wanted to be a Tiger - giving Hall an official offer – and Hall accepted on the spot.

Hall is expected to sign his national letter of intent next week, and when he does he will become the fifth signee for Brownell in this recruiting class. He will be joining 4-star power forward Bernard Sullivan, 3-star point guard Daniel Sapp, 3-star small forward K.J. McDaniels and 2-star shooting guard Devin Coleman.

Hall averaged 24.6 points, eight rebounds, four assists and three steals this past season, but said that defense is the most important part of his game, and he thinks he will fit in with Brownell’s style of play.

“Clemson is a great place, a place that I could fit in,” Hall told TigerNet Saturday after he had returned to Augusta. “It’s not too far away from home. And really, I love to play defense. It takes a lot of heart and courage to not let anybody get past you. And I don’t want to let anyone get past me. Not everybody wants to play defense.”

Hall, who was recruited by Clemson assistant Earl Grant, said he has already heard from the Clemson coaches about the role he will play next season.

“They kind of talked to me about how everything goes and how they work,” he said. “Like on defense, they said I would be the “jammer” and would pick up the full-court defense. I can pick up the guy all the way down the court. On offense, they like the way I shoot and they say I pass it really well.”

Hall picked Clemson over offers from Nebraska, Coastal Carolina and Tennessee State, and said two things stood out to him that put Clemson ahead of the pack.

“I didn’t get to watch them a lot this season, because I was always playing,” he said. “But I love how hard they play. And I like the campus a lot.”
