Davis To Remain at Clemson

by -

CLEMSON, SC -- Head Women's Basketball Coach Jim Davis announced Friday that

he will remain at Clemson University. Davis withdrew his name from

consideration for the head coaching position at Baylor University. He

interviewed with administrators at the Waco, TX school earlier this week.

"I have decided to withdraw my name from consideration for the head

coaching position at Baylor University," said Davis. "I was very impressed

with the people, facilities, everything about the Baylor program. The

people at Baylor treated me and my family in a first class manner every

minute of our visit. Everyone at Baylor is committed to making Lady Bear

basketball a nationally prominent program.

"Clemson has been our home for 13 years. We have invested a lot of

time and energy into making Clemson a program that is respected around the

country. We enhanced that reputation this year and with our two ACC

Championships since 1996.

"We still have much to accomplish, and I want to bring Clemson to

the next level. We had a very productive meeting today and I am confident

President (James) Barker and Bobby Robinson are committed to bringing

Clemson to that next level."

Davis has taken Clemson to 12 NCAA Tournaments in his 13 years at

Clemson, including this season when the Lady Tigers finished with a 19-12

mark. Clemson advanced to the second round of the NCAA Tournament before

being eliminated by #1 ranked UCONN on the Huskies home court. He has

coached Clemson to its only two ACC Championships in history (1996 and

1999). He has a record of 278-128 at Clemson and is 297-136 in his 14

years as a Division I head coach.
