CONWAY, S.C. – Coastal Carolina has signed a three-year contract with in-state rival Clemson to have the schools meet on the hardwood for the next three seasons head coach Cliff Ellis announced Thursday.

The Chanticleers will visit Littlejohn Coliseum next season on Nov. 21, marking the first time Coastal has faced Clemson since the 2002-03 season. The details for the next two games have yet to be determined, but one of those contests will be a home game for the Chanticleers.

“I appreciate them – they don’t have to do this. I appreciate them being willing to do this, and I am a huge Brad Brownell fan,” Ellis told the Sun News. “We just spent five days together in Mexico on the Nike trip. I just have a great appreciation for him and what he’s doing and [I’m] very impressed with what he’s done with his team this year.”

Ellis, who has led the Chanticleers to back-to-back Big South Championships, coached at Clemson from 1984-1994 and compiled a 177-128 overall record in his tenure. He led the Tigers to their 1990 Atlantic Coast Conference title, which is the only one in school history.

“It will be interesting,” Eilis told the Sun News. “It will be the first time I’ve ever pulled against Clemson. I’ve been gone long enough that the love for Clemson is still very strong, but at the same time … I can manage it. I probably until five or six years ago wouldn’t have been able to handle it too well, but I’m looking forward to it, looking forward to seeing great people and at the same time I’m looking forward to our program competing [against] the ACC and excited about Clemson eventually coming to our place.”
