•Clemson’s 29-point victory was its largest victory margin in history against Maryland. The previous high was a 22-point margin on January 19, 1977. That was Tree Rollins’s senior year. Clemson’s previous largest victory margin over a Gary Williams coached Maryland team took place during the 2004-05 season, an 88-73 victory.
•The 29-point margin tied for the fifth largest victory margin in Clemson history in an ACC game. It was the largest since just last year when Clemson had a 31-point victory at Virginia (82-51). The Clemson record is a 34-point victory over Duke in 1975-76. It was the largest victory margin over an ACC team at home since a 33-point win over Florida State (78-45) on Feb. 14, 1999. •Clemson now has 16 ACC wins by at least 25 points in its history, and six of the 16 have taken place during the week Feb. 12-17 on the calendar. •Clemson has now won six of the last eight meetings against Maryland. In five of those six wins, Clemson was coming off a loss. •Entering tonight’s game, Clemson had been just 5-8 as a top 25 team against Maryland, but improved that to 6-8 with the victory tonight. •Clemson defeated Duke earlier this year by 27 points at Clemson. This is the third time in history Clemson has had two ACC wins of 25 points or more in the same season. The other seasons were 1998-99 (over Georgia Tech and Florida State) and in 1972-73 (wins over Wake Forest and Duke). •Clemson had a season high 37 field goals in the contest, including 24 in the second half when the Tigers were 24-35 from the field. •Clemson scored 59 points in the second half to tie its season high for points in a half. The Tigers had 59 in the second half against Hofstra in the season opener. It was the most points for the Tigers in a half against an ACC team since March 4, 2006 when Clemson scored 61 points in the second half in a 95-82 win over Georgia Tech. •Clemson had six different players make a three-point goal tonight and one of the six was not K.C. Rivers, Clemson’s career leader in that category with 261. Clemson’s bench made 6-9 three-point goals. Rivers scored 14 points but did not attempt a three-point goal this evening. •Clemson shot 57.8 percent from the field this evening, Clemson’s best shooting game since a 57.9 percentage in the win over Illinois on December 2. It broke a streak of 11 straight games without shooting 50 percent for the Tigers. •Tonight was Clemson’s sixth ACC win by double digits this year, tying a Clemson record for a regular season that was established last year. The Tigers then had a seventh in the ACC Tournament win over Boston College last year. That gives the Tigers 13 wins over ACC teams by double digits the last two years. •Clemson had 24 assists tonight, a season high and the most since the Tigers 26 in the season opening win over Furman last year. •Terrence Oglesby tied his career high with six assists against just one turnover. He also had six assists at Boston College last Tuesday night. •Clemson had six players score in double figures for the first time this year and the first time since Clemson had six in a win over DePaul in Puerto Rico on Dec. 21, 2007. •Clemson is now 11-1 all-time in home games on February 17. •Clemson scored 93 points this evening, its high total in an ACC game since a 103-93 double overtime loss at North Carolina last year. It was the high total in an ACC victory completed in regulation since a 95-82 win over Georgia Tech at Clemson on March 4, 2006. Clemson scored 97 last year against Florida State, but that was also a double overtime game. •Clemson post players Trevor Booker, Jerai Grant, Raymond Sykes and Catalin Baciu were a combined 11-11 from the field this evening. •Demontez Stitt scored 15 points, his high point total since he had 18 in a win at Illinois on December 2, 2008. It tied his career high for a scoring performance in Littlejohn Coliseum. He also scored 15 against Samford on December 29, 2007. Stitt scored three three-point goals tonight, his high figure in a game this year and his high total since he made 4-4 in the NCAA Tournament game against Villanova last year. •Trevor Booker had 11 points and 14 rebounds tonight, his fourth double-double in his last seven games. He now has eight double-doubles this season and his 18th as a Tiger. Clemson is 8-0 this year when Booker gets a double-double. Booker is now 26-39 from the field in his career against Maryland, .667. Clemson vs. Maryland Post-Game Coaches’ Quotes Clemson Head Coach Oliver Purnell “I thought we played very well today. Obviously we played well and made shots in the second half and I thought even in the first half we played well. We had to be ready for a team that came in with some confidence and they were ready to go. They started to narrow the lead there at the end of the half, but we made a big play going into the half. K.C. picked off a pass and went in and gave us a little bit of momentum. And then a couple of things just didn’t go well for them coming out of the half. Our guys were in it for the long haul and the recognition of an ACC game on our home court certainly sank in. It was one of our better games of the year at an opportune time.” On Booker: “Teams are doubling Booker now, and he’s doing an outstanding job of finding people. He only took 5 shots for the game, but he set up so many other guys. And teams are going to double like that, but we have the ability to tear from the outside, as long as we’re making great shots. Our ball movement was really good in the second half.” On bench play: “Energy. Effort. We didn’t lose anything, particularly defensively, as they came in, and that’s what we try to do every game. We held them in the first but just couldn’t in the second. They are going to hurt a lot of teams with their size.” On Booker “He is a very good player. Stitt also did a good job for them tonight. They have a good combo with their three point shooters and inside presence. They are very hard to defend.” On Pace of Game “It does wear you down, but we had enough players and just didn’t make layups when we broke the press.” On the Press “We press a lot so we are used to it. Clemson did a good job of transitioning out of the press when it wasn’t working.” On Clemson Defense “They are tough on the ball. They are very quick and you can’t just go by them. You have to run good plays, and we didn’t do that.”
