CLEMSON – Jaron Blossomgame walked into Clemson head coach Brad Brownell’s office following the Tigers’ loss to North Carolina on Saturday, and got more than he expected.

Blossomgame said he expected for Brownell to just talk to him about the school and his visit to the campus this weekend, but Brownell shocked the 6-foot-7 power forward with a scholarship offer.

Blossomgame, who was in the coach’s office with his high school basketball coach and the coach’s wife, told Brownell he would think about it, but once he made it back to his home in Alpharetta, Ga., and talked it over with his family, his mind was made up.

“I got the offer after the game from Coach Brownell,” Blossomgame told TigerNet Saturday night. “He was surprised that I called him right back at home. He told me that his day had been bad up until that point.”

Blossomgame is ranked as one of the Top 150 players nationally, and is the 32nd-ranked power forward in the nation according to both Scout and Rivals.

In early January, Blossomgame turned in a dominating performance for Chattahoochee (the same high school as Clemson football commit Ammon Lakip), as he scored 42 points and grabbed 15 rebounds in a 72-55 win over South Forsyth.

He’s also received offers from Virginia Commonwealth, Wichita State and Tennessee Tech, but said Clemson was the perfect place for him.

“My family was happy,” he said. “They all like the school and my mom has been up there a few times. She really likes the coaching staff and the school a lot. When I told her about the offer, she was pretty excited. I really like the school, the coaches, and I think it’s a great environment.”

Blossomgame said he likes to play physical and do the dirty work.

“I rebound the ball well,” he said. “I am shooting the ball a lot easier this season, and I can get to the rim a lot easier.”

He is averaging 25 points and nine rebounds per game this season.
