CLEMSON, S.C. – Senior forward Trevor Booker has been named to the preseason candidate list for the John R. Wooden Award, presented annually to the nation’s top collegiate basketball player.

Booker will be the leading returning scorer (15.3 ppg) for the 2009-10 Tiger basketball squad. He is coming off a junior season in which he led the ACC in field goal percentage (.571) and rebounds per game (9.7). He also averaged a double-double during the regular season of the ACC. Booker, a second-team all-conference selection last season, was one of 10 players from the ACC named to the preseason watch list.

The Wooden Award Committee will release the midseason top 30 list in late December, followed in March by the national ballot, consisting of approximately 20 players who have proven to their universities that they are also making progress toward graduation and maintaining a cumulative 2.0 GPA.

Created in 1976, the John R. Wooden Award is the most prestigious individual honor in college basketball. It is bestowed upon the nation's best player at an institution of higher education who has proven to his or her university that he or she is making progress toward graduation and maintaining a cumulative 2.0 GPA. Previous winners include such notables as Larry Bird ('79), Michael Jordan ('84), Tim Duncan ('97), and Blake Griffin ('09). Candace Parker of Tennessee won the Women's Wooden Award in 2007 and 2008.

Candidates can be followed throughout the season by logging on to www.WoodenAward.com.
