CLEMSON - When Clemson resumes ACC play Saturday against N.C. State, it may do so without center Adam Allenspach.

Allenspach missed practice Thursday in order to get his back examined by doctors in Columbia. He continues to have struggle with pain and mobility, problems which have plagued the 7-foot-1 senior since undergoing surgery on his lower back in May.

"He's seeing a doctor (who) can take a look and sort of refresh us and give us an idea if he can increase his mobility or decrease his pain," head coach Larry Shyatt said following Thursday's workout. "It's really that simple...we hope that he can do that."

Allenspach, who was accompanied to the doctor by team trainer Jerome "Raz" Razayeski, was expected back in Clemson late Thursday night.

Allenspach's father told reporters Thursday afternoon that his son wouldn't play Saturday, but Shyatt said wouldn't speculate on his availability until after getting the report.

"Right now I don't want to anticipate anything because it would be unfair to him, us and you (the media)," Shyatt said. "I don't have that kind of information, and I don't want to put him in any harm. We'll take it day by day right now."

The Tigers (9-6, 0-2 ACC) host N.C. State (8-5, 0-2) at 4 p.m. Saturday.
