Akin Akingabla Named Co-ACC Player of the Week

Clemson’s Akin Akingabla and North Carolina’s Tyler Hansbrough have been selected as Co-ACC Players of the Week. Hansbrough was also tabbed as the league’s Rookie of the Week. Akingbala, a 6-9, 238-pound center, averaged 21.5 points and 13.5 rebounds in leading the Tigers to a pair of league wins. The Lagos, Nigeria, senior had 21 points and 16 rebounds in an 86-81 win at Virginia Tech and 22 points and 11 rebounds in a 95-82 victory over Georgia Tech.

In tying Kenny Anderson’s 1990 record of 10 ACC Rookie of the Week selections, Hansbrough averaged 20.0 points and 9.0 rebounds as the Tar Heels ran their winning streak to seven in a row with wins over Virginia and No. 1 Duke. The Poplar Bluff, Mo., native led all scorers on both teams with 27 points in Carolina's 83-76 win at top-ranked Duke, scoring 19 of his 27 points in the second half.
