Notes: Clemson went 5-0 last week, including a three-game sweep of N.C. State, to put itself alone in second place in the ACC standings and 1.5 games behind first-place Virginia. The Tigers upped their home winning streak to 14 games and have won 18 of the last 22 games after starting the season 9-10. Clemson is also 15-2 at night and 9-0 in home ACC games. Head Coach Jack Leggett won his 500th game at Clemson Sunday in the Tigers' 9-6 win over N.C. State. He reached the milestone in just his 11th season. He also has 877 career victories in his 25th season as a head coach. The Tigers won three games in a row last week in their last at-bat, including two by walkoff, game-winning singles in the ninth inning. Russell Triplett won Friday's game and Zane Green won Saturday's game after being hitless in his last 23 at-bats. Clemson will take its average attendance of 3,730 into its next action against Florida State at Doug Kingsmore Stadium starting Saturday at 7:00 PM. Clemson will be off this midweek due to final exams.
Clemson hit .284 last week, led by Andy D'Alessio's .417 batting average (5-for-12). The freshman also walked seven times and had a .632 on-base percentage. Tony Sipp was 6-for-16 (.375) with four steals. He also was 1-0 with 3.0 scoreless innings pitched in two relief appearances against N.C. State. Lou Santangelo, Kris Harvey, and Brad McCann all had two homers apiece on the week as well. McCann leads the team with a .383 batting average along with 16 doubles, 10 homers, and 42 RBIs. Santangelo has a team-best 12 homers and 36 RBIs as well. The staff's ERA was 3.20 for the week. Jason Berken made two short starts, as he has now gone 23.0 consecutive innings without allowing an earned run. The pitching staff has also allowed double-digit hits in just three of the last 19 games and has not allowed more than five earned runs in 22 straight games to lower the team's ERA to 3.77. Patrick Hogan has 40 strikeouts against only eight walks in 27.0 innings pitched. He also has an ACC-best nine saves. In Sipp's last seven outings, he has allowed just one earned run in 12.2 innings pitched to lower his ERA to 4.39. He also has a team-best 14 stolen bases.
Collegiate Baseball Poll TUCSON, Ariz. — The University of Texas is No. 1 for the third straight week in Collegiate Baseball newspaper's NCAA Division I baseball poll. The Longhorns (41-6) have won 14 of their last 16 games and lead the Big 12 Conference with a 13-4 record. Pitching has been superb all season long for Texas with a team ERA of 2.34 and nine shutouts in 47 games. The pitching staff has struck out 408 batters and walked 149. On offense, the Longhorns have stolen 96 bases in 129 attempts while limiting their opposition to only 35 stolen bases. Poll Notes: Several teams are red-hot. East Carolina continues to surge as the Pirates jumped from 16 to 9 in this week's poll. East Carolina (35-6) has won 16 straight games, a school a record, and sits in first place in Conference USA with a 15-3 record. Another team that has been on a roll is Clemson. The Tigers started the season with a 9-10 record. Since that time, Clemson has won 18 of its last 22. Over the past weekend, the Tigers swept North Carolina St. three straight and are now in second place in the Atlantic Coast Conference with an 11-4 record. Arkansas was 4-0 last week and leads the Southeastern Conference with a 13-5 conference mark. Other notable series last weekend saw Georgia Tech. sweep Florida St. three straight in Tallahassee, Fla. It marked the first time the Seminoles had been swept at home in a 3-game ACC series since joining the league in 1992 — a span of 51 series. Georgia swept a 3-game series at home against Mississippi. The Rebels lost five straight games last week and dropped from 7 to 16. Tulane swept a 3-game series at home against Southern Mississippi. Four teams fell out of the poll this week in Southern Mississippi (1-3), North Carolina St. (0-4), Rutgers (1-2) and Cal. St. Fullerton (2-2). The Collegiate Baseball Newspaper poll is the oldest college baseball poll. Its birth took place during the 1957 college baseball season.

Baseball America's College Top 25 DURHAM, N.C. - Texas held on to the No. 1 spot in Baseball America's Top 25 weekly college baseball rankings for the third straight week by winning a Big 12 series against Nebraska. East Carolina defeated North Carolina State and then swept a three-game series from Louisville to set a school record with 16 consecutive wins. The Pirates moved up to No. 7, their highest ranking ever. East Carolina was rated eighth on May 27, 2001. Arkansas made this week's biggest leap; the Razorbacks are up to No. 12 from No. 20 after winning their fifth straight Southeastern Conference series. Arkansas is 13-5 in league play, two games better than any other team. Clemson forced its way back into the poll at No. 22 after a six-week absence. The Tigers swept an Atlantic Coast Conference series from North Carolina State and have won 18 of their last 22 games, including 14 straight at home. Florida also found its way back into the rankings by sweeping an SEC series from Vanderbilt. The staff of Baseball America determines the Top 25 rankings. Records indicated are through games of April 25 and do not include ties.
